چکیده
The n u m b e r of incoming Rice undergradua tes is 169 more t h a n anticipated , marking a rise in the university 's s tuden t yield but also leading to shor tage of on c a m p u s rooms for the new Owls. According to Dean of Undergraduates John Hutchinson, the university had originally targeted 950 new students for this fall, but the number as of June was about 1,119. Though 16 of those s tudents didn't want to live on campus , 1,103 were still left to vie for the 950 beds. Hutchinson said about half of the extra s tudents were given rooms that had been vacated by upperclassmen who didn't return this fall, but 55 remained in need of housing.

A Comparative Study of Class Activities and Students’ Expectations of IELTS and TOEFL iBT Preparation Courses: A Methodological Triangulation Washback Study
Washback refers to the influence of a test on teaching and learning. This study was an attempt to compare the influence of IELTS and TOEFL iBT on the expectations the students brought to their courses and to investigate how these expectations were fulfilled. To this end, 100 IELTS and 120 TOEFL iBT students attending preparation courses took a questionnaire survey, and a sample of their ten cla...
متن کاملAn improved genetic algorithm for multidimensional optimization of precedence-constrained production planning and scheduling
Integration of production planning and scheduling is a class of problems commonly found in manufacturing industry. This class of problems associated with precedence constraint has been previously modeled and optimized by the authors, in which, it requires a multidimensional optimization at the same time: what to make, how many to make, where to make and the order to make. It is a combinatorial,...
متن کاملNew Heuristic Algorithms for Solving Single-Vehicle and Multi-Vehicle Generalized Traveling Salesman Problems (GTSP)
Among numerous NP-hard problems, the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) has been one of the most explored, yet unknown one. Even a minor modification changes the problem’s status, calling for a different solution. The Generalized Traveling Salesman Problem (GTSP)expands the TSP to a much more complicated form, replacing single nodes with a group or cluster of nodes, where the objective is to fi...
متن کاملMeasurement of Computing Services Effectiveness for the University of Wisconsin-
Information Technology (IT) provides computing facilities and a variety of computing services to the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse campus. The purpose of this study is to measure the effectiveness of IT in various areas on campus by measuring the difference between users’ expectations of IT and IT’s perceived performance in these areas. The size and direction of the discrepancies (or gaps)...
متن کاملPatient Throughput: A Critical Strategy for Success
Pressured Return on Assets: For most U.S. providers, the need for enhanced Return on Assets (ROA) is significant and will only increase as operating cost growth continues in the face of constrained reimbursement, resulting in decreasing ROA, net income and a higher future cost of capital. Those providers considering constructing new beds face even greater ROA hurdles because construction costs ...
